Young Adults
I think of young adults as age 16-24. This is a unique developmental phase where so many aspects of childhood and youth are falling away in favor of new experiences, relationships and values.
The benefit of taking time in counseling at this age is being able to look at where you have come from, where you are now and develop a means of moving forward. Sometimes we know where we want to go or what we want life to look like and other times we can feel totally lost- that's particularly true at this age.
One of the considerations is that depending on the family who raised you and your early life experiences and your early peer experiences, it can be a time of life of questioning yourself and feeling like you're not good enough or won't be able to succeed. Counseling helps to sort out facts from false beliefs about not being good enough and help a person understand their own potential and possible ways to build their adult lives.
Sometimes a young adult will have worked very hard and deliberately for a long time to reach a goal only to find when they reach it and find they are not satisfied. Again, its about looking at the track that brought you to the place where you are now, becoming oriented into your own values and sense of who you are and from their creating a life for your self.
There is probably much more to say about this interesting and unique time in life. I'll leave it there for now. The best way to know if we might be a fit for counseling is to meet once and then you decide.
Feel free to text or email if you have questions.
